| The Violobot is a mechanical tool that augments the creative potential of the violin, through bypassing the physical limitations of the performer. The Violobot differs from a traditional violinist in a number of ways. Each string is played independently across the bow area and the fingerboard. Four bows take the form of spheres over each string. Each bowing sphere consists of a rosin coated wooden ball rotating on a D/C motor placed over the bowing area. Each bowing sphere is fixed to a servomotor to control the amount of pressure applied to the string. Four standard desktop printers were dismantled to make use of the linear carriage that houses the ink cartages. Attached to these linear carriages are ball bearings on rods that act as glissando wheels. The position of these glissando wheels determines pitch. |
