I am a Roboticist, kinetic sculptor, and experimental musician, (blablabla), although music is becoming more and more tiresome and I feel like moving away from it. I do like to design and build the instruments, mechanical or digital, but making the music no longer interests me. If you are into to it, contact me and let me know, ok. I still work with sound, but mostly its just about writing software for different people. I work by taking existing and experimental technology, breaking it down into various components and recombining them in new ways to create something innovative. This sounds like vague bullshit, I know... but it is true! What I’m basically saying is that I take shit apart and see what I can use, like taking the linear movement out of printers by gutting it and slapping on a better motor, it does get deeper… that’s the gist. I started my ‘art career’ as a painter and moved into video. As computers became faster and more accessible, I moved into real-time processing of the moving image in conjunction with music using a combination of generation and composition. However, I missed the physicality and the process of working in the real world. One day I discovered I could put everything I loved about making art into one thing: robotics. That was a good day. The combination of mechanics, electronics, programming and art is what creates the complete medium for me. My new project (ICE) is awesome, I will put up some bs about it soon to the ‘current’ part of the site… hopefully I can have some little videos (I still need a camera that doesn't suck). It is going to be a long project as it is complex... but I think it will be fun to let people look at the WIP of it. Also I can have some decent documentation for once ;) I am also working on a few VG proposals with David Karam from posttool. This is going to be fucking unbelievable and is totally top secret, don't even ask, just wait for it.
I was currently collaborating with media artists Hermen Matt and Karen Lancel in conjunction with V2_: Institute for the Unstable Media
Recent collaborations include projects with swummoq(nl) and posttool(us) and Domenico Giustino with PARTS(be). |
